The winning bids for the 2018 and 2022 FIFA world cup are Russia and Qatar respectively. The United States were pretty disappointed that their bid for the 2022 World Cup failed. The spent millions of dollars and even brought former president Bill Clinton for their closing presentation (interesting). But what's done is done.
This makes Russia the first Eastern European country to host the World Cup, while Qatar would be the first Middle Eastern country to host the World Cup.
The host selection was made in a voting round. In each round a majority of 12 votes was needed. If no bid received 12 votes in a round, the bid with the least amount of votes in that round was eliminated

It's going to be two interesting world cups especially as Qatar is a small country. We'll see how well both World Cups are going to be. 12 more years till Qatar 2022 xD.
