I hate 3D cartoons. Like seriously.

I'm sure most of you have grown up with cartoons. Heck, some of you might still be watching cartoons (like me xD). What I'm referring here are the animated ones, whether it be on TV or in films. These products of the human imagination consume most of your spare time. Some call them abominations that will devour the human soul causing maximum damage to a child/adult. Call them what you want.

I have to be truthful though, I don't really like 3D cartoons. I don't hate all of them though. There are a few rare occasions when there's a 3D cartoon with a good story, well planned structure that I do indeed enjoy. But for the most part, I hate 3D cartoons. Now, I don't dabble in the animation industry so I don't exactly know the entire process for a 3D cartoon.

2D animation to me, will always be better than 3D (once again, only on rare occasions does 3D win, like Pixar's animations, they rock!). The manual and slow process of 2D animation creates a very fine entertainment piece. Animators have to work hard to ensure that the animation is smooth and splendid to look at.

But 3D animation on the other hand, all you have to do is model some characters, settings, skybox, etc and you can reuse them over and over. Some 3D cartoons don't even bother with details. Let's just colour it yellow. No details. The audience will never notice. Rubbish.

2D animation is an art form. You need years of experience to learn the ropes and to know the tricks of the trade. You have to give it extra care and attention.

But even nowadays, some 2D animation have gone astray in a zone I call "LSD cartoons". What are LSD cartoons? Cartoons that are trippy, consists of idiotic storylines, with garbage characters that will only last a couple of episodes. LSD cartoons. I can name a few. I'm pretty disappointed at this fact. Most 3D cartoons fall into this category. And now, 2D cartoons are rapidly moving into the "LSD" zone.

Please, no more of it. Can't you actually make a decent cartoon without trying to make a quick buck out of it? Treat the audience with respect. They want a high quality product. Characters that you care about. Not characters that you laugh at for 30 minutes and forget about them after that.

Take a look at SpongebobSquarepants. The animation is good. Lots of people have favourite characters from the show. The story is ok. Lots of episodes actually have a pretty interesting storyline. I enjoy Spongebob. As a result of this care the crew have for the show, it's running pretty well.

Now say hello to Chowder. I hate that show. The story, characters and settings are weird. The colours and animation hurts my eye. The show is pretty odd. It could be good if it was well executed but most episodes are just randomness strung together.

Now keep in mind that they are rare exceptions for weird shows. Some weird shows are actually good. Like Courage The Cowardly Dog. Even though most episodes are pretty odd and creepy, it;s executed well that viewers enjoy it. The characters are likeable. You actually have sympathy for Courage in some scenes. It's an awesome show.

So, my point is, no matter 2D or 3D, if you don't execute or plan it well, it'll suck. 3D has a long way before it's shows are actually good and it needs to escape the money grab attitude. And as for 2D, it needs to watch itself.
