The Citizen Connection (Chapter 5)

Chapter 5 :Rebel Assault

"So, you mind telling me the whole plan? Now that we're safe?" asked Kevin.

Armedius and Kevin were cruising towards the QuAd Office. Thankfully, they went off-road and into the lush forests of Zercrom. Zercrom is a huge flora haven. Unlike the bustling cities of the country, Zercrom is one of the very few sanctuaries where plants can flourish and grow peacefully. There has been a scare among the environmental citizens that the government was planning to destroy more jungles to make way for development, but the citizens campaigned against it. Alexender Markowizch, a famous environmentalist dabbled in politics and rose up in the ranks. He was soon made "Minister of Green" and had the power over future government plans involving trees and whatnot. He was often made fun of, being called "Kermit" ( for having the title of being a Green Minister). Even though he cared for the environment, his views towards citizens differ greatly. It seems that all their leaders were no good scum. Cowards looking for wealth and power.

     "Okay," finally Armedius answered.
"As you know, the QuAd makes its own guns,"
"And every now and then, they make a breakthrough in weapon technology,"
"They'll have to produce and ship out tons of the new weapon into other government bodies,"
"So what? We steal those guns?" asked Kevin.
"No, too simple. They are always expecting something like that," said Armedius.
"We're going to infiltrate the QuAd when their trucks leave. When their trucks leave to ship out the guns, they automate their gates to open and close unlike other times where guards would do the work,"
"What happens to all the gate guards?"
"They follow the trucks of course. The guards protect the shipment for about half the journey,"
"And it so happens that the QuAd guys have made another breakthrough and will ship some new rifles to the Business District,"
"That'll give us about..... 30 minutes of a building with no gate guards plus less CGs because of the decoy attack," calculated Kevin.
     "30 minutes," repeated Armedius.
"And the CGs won't notice a huge platoon rebels camping, waiting to infiltrate?" asked Kevin.
"Underground bunkers built secretly," smiled Armedius.

Kevin smiled back. He knows that the plan might just work and might just give the citizens the needed freedom.

Soon, they arrived at a dark area of the forest. Nothing peculiar could be seen. All seemed well.

"We're here,". Armedius jumped off the APC. Kevin followed suit.
     "So?"
     "Wait,"

Armedius walked to a tree covered in moss. He touched a part of the bark and an opening appeared. The opening lead underground.

"C'mon follow me," whispered Armedius to Kevin.

They walked down the steps carefully. It was crudely built, utilising twigs and other natural resources available to the rebels. After a couple of feet deep underground both men stopped. They had reached a dead end. A tap on the wall revealed a secret button. A door opened. It revealed about a couple dozen of rebels anticipating their arrival.

"Armedius, Kevin you're alive!" exclaimed one of the rebels.
    "Alive and ready for action,"
"Good, we were hoping you'd say that because the attack is about to launch,"

A peek inside the room revealed a gigantic space. Around fifty stolen and hand-built APCs were stored there. And the amount of rebels were tremendous. All the rebels were equipped with stolen weapons that they raided from government camps during earlier missions. First aid kits were aplenty. They can't afford to fail this time. Dozens of electronic equipment were set up to monitor the surroundings and to maintain communication. The rebels were divided into a couple of groups, each lead by a leader. Armedius was the leader of Team Sync. Kevin was to lead Team Limerick.

"I can't believe you didn't tell me of this mission a couple of weeks ago," said Kevin to Armedius.
"Sorry bro but we can't risk an information leak," replied Armedius.

Then, a shout was heard. Fargo McAllister, one of the higher ranking rebels was ordering rebels everywhere.

     "Rebels, get ready!"
     "Team Alpha!"
     "Team Borne, move!"

"Listen, I'd better go," said Armedius.
"Okay, see you you at the victory parade!" shouted Kevin.

Armedius ran off towards his group of rebels. Kevin ran towards his. Kevin took a glance at his rebels. They were five of them. His team had far too little rebels compared to the other teams but his team had a special purpose. Data theft. As a failsafe, if the mission were to fail, atleast Team Limerick had some stolen data. Provided the escaped alive of course. Hopefully, my team won't have to escape with stolen data. Thought Kevin. They can't fail this time.

"All rebels prepare to exit facility! Onward to victory!"
